HOLDING HANDS.....WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

I was tagged by RenuThe theme of the tag was Holding hands what it means to me.This a very interesting tag and made me really think about it, a flood of memories passed through my mind.I would like to share a few.

Holding my hand she takes me to school,
Crying,scared but comforted
by a strong hand,my mother.

Your hand in mine, feeling safe and secure
guiding me across a crowded street
My dad.

Holding hands singing together
my friends and I
Beautiful memories of time gone by.

Holding hands, forming a bond
The family stands together
weathering the storm.

Holding hands, not wanting to let go
When one has to leave loved ones
To travel to another shore.

The exciting feeling,
when i first held his hand.
A sense of love and belonging.
Walking beneath a starlight sky
I look up and see love in his eyes.

Holding hands
we look to each other for strength,
In a new country
As husband and wife.

Holding hands smaller than mine
A wave of love comes upon me.
these hands belong to me, to teach them,
to guide them and then set them free.
My children.

Reaching out
holding someones hand
comforting one another
Giving a helping hand.
Even strangers.

Anyone ...PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO THIS TAG.

UNACCUSTOMED EARTH by JHUMPA LAHIRI

I just finished reading this book and thought I would share this with you.The book has eight short stories that span from Cambridge to Thailand.

In the first story Ruma who is married is visited by her father, who recently lost his wife.he would love to stay with his daughter and get to know his grandson better, but is torn between staying and taking a trip with a woman he is in love with.

In “A Choice of Accommodations,” a couple’s romantic getaway weekend takes a dark turn at a party that lasts deep into the night.

In “Only Goodness,” is a sad story where the sister is eager to give her younger brother the perfect childhood she never had is overwhelmed by guilt, anguish and anger when his alcoholism threatens her family.

Hema and Kaushik is a story of life, death, love and the lives of a girl and boy who, one fateful winter, share a house in Massachusetts. They travel from innocence and sometimes painful paths, until destiny brings them together again years later in Rome. But in the end fate seperates them.

All eight stories are about the lives of Bengali immigrants in America. Some may say that this book is a little similar to her other books about Bengali immigrants but I still enjoyed it, but was disappointed with it being a short story.I wanted the stories to continue.Do you ever feel like you don't want the story to end?

A NEW BEGINNING,CHANGE AND HOPE

PART OF THE INAUGURAL SPEECH OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

I thought these words had a special meaning.
The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of
happiness

For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and nonbelievers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

ON THIS IMPORTANT DAY WE WISH OUR NEW PRESIDENT THE VERY BEST AND WE PRAY THAT GOD WILL GUIDE HIM AND HELP HIM SERVE THIS COUNTRY WELL.

LIFE'S HUES

I hold the kaleidoscope to the light
Colors that were dull suddenly become bright.
I turn and turn and turn again
All the colors start to blend
each pattern shows a different view
Displaying every brilliant hue.

It starts out with just red and green
Then is added colors I have never seen.
A hint of violet, a touch of blue
A spray of pink and I am glued.
Sometimes I see silver and gold
some are faded and some are bold.

I think life is like a Kaleidoscope
Never the same as we hope
Each spin alters the way we feel
Colors will change from day to day
Sometimes they may be bright
Sometimes they may be grey.

It does not matter how they are blended
What shapes are formed or how they are ended.
We try to mix them the best way we can
It may not be what we intended
Maybe there are ways it could be mended.
But I feel there is always hope
while viewing life's Kaleidoscope.
