LOVE ONE ANOTHER
The election in California had two faces. One is pride that a large majority voted for the man who would be the first African-American president of the United States. The second is the embarrassment of people voting to make same sex marriage illegal. I was very excited that Barrack Obama won the election but was really sad about the ban on same sex marriage.
I don't think it should be made illegal, if we can enjoy the benefits of being married why should we deny the same to the people we think are not like us.I was always taught to love and respect one another, even if I did not share their views or beliefs.Marriage has been redifined many times in the past so why cannot it be done again.I personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman but i cannot and will not impose that belief on others. The same people who had to fight for equality not so long ago,and the people who consider themselves religious voted to make it illegal. How can one live with themselves in preventing people from loving each other. How would we feel if we were not allowed to marry the one we loved.I may not understand too much about people who are different from me, but I do believe that they should have equal rights.WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Loving one another is not wrong! A belief is believed by one could not be forced anyone.
i think everyone has the right to love and be loved!!! the definition of marriage has been created by society. hopefully someday same-sex marriage should also become accepted. making it illegal will only make them stronger!!
I agree with you.Whether we like it or not, but everybody must have equal rights and loving someone cant ever be wrong.
Too much restrictions on anything is never good for any body, its like prostitution, which is present everywhere, ban only makes way for exploitation.
Jeevan.I agree.
I can only hope so.wanting to get married and settle down with one person cannot be wrong.
Renu..yes equal rights for all of mankind.
Starry HUGGGGGGGGGZ! I u'stand that not everyone can read my every post on time :) dun worry abt that. I didnt mean u at all. there r some frequent readers of my blog who r just there for a game...I meant it for those ppl :)
btw this is such a great post. I agree with every word u said here.
**I may not understand too much about people who are different from me, but I do believe that they should have equal rights
exactly my thoughts abt this issue.
ok girly, Im going now...just came to say goodbye for a lil while. U TC now and keep smiling. MWAHHHHHHHH! See ya next time. Im gonna miss u all!
Keshi.
I agree Starry. The day was rather bittersweet. I was so happy about Obama and really shocked that Proposition 8 passed.
We need more love in this world, not less. I think whether gay or straight, all people should be able to marry who they choose.
Same sex marriage is weird and against the laws of nature...
A state should not legalise it, considering the larger good for humanity...
but, a same-sex pair loving each other can always colive -- why do they need the legal validity of a marriage..
Western society is losing all their moral vision --weird humans(!?), thats what i feel...they can't see the reality and do not know how humanity has grown through the ages...
its not through same-sex, anyway!!
wishes!

How are you, starry? Thank you for not giving up on me. :) for the first time in my life I haven been so passionately involved in politics. YAY!! OBAMA!
I think two things:
1. One doesnt need marriage to sanctify love.
2. Marriage, according to scriptures, is between a man and a woman, and for significant reasons - the balance and well being of the human society - must be kept that way. I am what people call very conservative in this, but you know I only strongly believe in things that I have proven for myself as truth.
i think it should be legalized...see the world is on a progress...once kissing on the roads..hugging was considered vulgar..now it is not....times change...wait n watch
so do i..i see no reason why there shouldn be one esp after having accepted them as part of our society
I think everyone has a right to make a choice for themselves and if they have made it we must allow them to live.
Protesting and fighting against will not resolve anything but bring big gap among people.
I think freedom is everyone's birth right and no one should mingle with that
Good post dear...:)
Cheers

Anali..yes we do need more love in ths world.
Devika I have to disagree because I thnk everyone should have equal rights.
Mystic I think everyone's opinion should be respected ,I just feel they have a right to be married and get the same benefits we get.
Vinay..yes change will come.
Krithika yes I agree this is the 21st centtury and we have to go forward.
Dawn thank you, freedom is everyone's birthright.
Devika..thanks for stopping by again.yes we are far from the fire this time.
Nasra..I am so happy for you.Congratulations.
Hi SN!
i may have to become as uncivilised to reply in a befitting manner..but i need to:
think Starry, that your parents or for that matter my parent -- were gay -- would you/me be in this world to assert our rights, not the least say that..
btw, as a legal professional -- i think i understand what goes into the making a fundmental right...
perhaps you may need to study more..before you make a viewpoint..
sorry for being so blunt; but facts are always...and its not Devika, the person who is talking here..its my socio-politically inclined self that is..
hope you understand..and hope you are open enough to accept opinions that come to you...
wishes!
devika
I really appreciate your open-mindedness on tolerance (accepting others beliefs and not forcing your belief).
For me, it is more of EQUAL RIGHTS (as you pointed it out here). I have met many gay and lesbian people in my life and not everybody wants to marry like the majority (heterosexual) as they think why should one has to fulfill the so-called "normality" of the world (which is mostly defined by the man-made religions) but they people are for one thing which I stand for : Equal rights...if the heterosexual have the option to get married why not the homosexual people too ? Equal rights ! And respects to others and their beliefs...I am an atheist and I never impose it on others...My parents are religious and they never tried to impose their religion on me...
I am glad that your children are lucky me !
Its a sin to impose one's judgement on others and it is a crime to stamp on others wish because of one's conditioned mind.
BTW, i know someone who said that all she learnt from past relations is that its "better to be a gay".
lalitha, you are so right! live and let live, happily is the mantra which all of us need
p.s: you could congratulate me as well, along with Nasra... and you are invited! :) 7th of Dec
Devika..I am sorry but cannot agree with you.Gay people want to be married and have rights as we do, why should we deny them that right.I think it is just hate.
Prash i agree with you..equal rights and freeedom.thats what we believe in. I do hope it is overturned again and gays will be allowed to marry if they want to.
Neers..CONGRATULATions.who is the lucky person. Is the wedding in India.I am so happy for you.
Love is a universal emotion and any kind of sanctions against it is reprehensible. People should be encouraged to love , and freely; race, religion, age, gender,...regardless!
